Kids Zone Activities

Southeast Wisconsin Water and Energy Efficiency Expo
                                        Kids Zone
May 8th , 2010
At the Waukesha County Expo Forum Building from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

The kids zone will have many fun activities!  Come and check it out because you won't want to miss one drop of fun!

9:00  The Waukesha School District will have aquatic benthic macro-invertebrates on hand.   What!?!   That's a big fancy name for water critters.  Come and see who lives in our local rivers and streams.  Bugs may include leeches, crayfish, mayfly larvae, blackfly larvae and many more.  Learn how these creatures survive in a river and how we can help keep the river clean for them.

10:00   Waukesha County Recycling and Solid Waste will present an interactive watershed model.  What is a watershed?  Come and find out!  You will see erosion and runoff in action in this model and learn how to prevent them.

11:00  Waukesha Wastewater Treatment Facility will present an program to help you figure out where your water goes when it goes down the drain.

12:00  The Waukesha Water Utility will demonstrate how groundwater moves and where our drinking water comes from with a groundwater model.  We'll actually "pump" wells and watch a pollution plume move under the ground.  Best of all, we'll create edible aquifers using delicious ingredients like soda and ice cream.  You don't want to miss this delicious event!

1:00  The Waukesha School District will bring the bugs back out for round 2 of viewing.    See the 9:00 listing for more details

1:45  National Drinking Water Awareness Week--Poster Contest winners will be announced.  Posters will be on display throughout the day, but come at 1:45 for winners awards to be announced.

2:00  Radio Disney!   Come and join Radio Disney as we learn "green" tips for water and energy conservation while having fun.  There will be music, prizes, contests and fun!

In addition to the activities above, there will also be lots of hands on fun available all day.  Try out the Pedal Pusher and see how much energy it takes to light a light bulb or run a hair dryer.  Build a water molecule with water magnets.  Make your own water meter to measure how much water you use in a day and much more!

Kids get in free and parents are only $5, so come join the fun!
